First, I want to introduce My self.My name is Edwin
Adikaputra I make this article for meet English task.My English task is make
direct sentence and indirect sentence
Okay
now I will go straight to the core of the discussion of this article,
What
was the sentence immediately and what the sentence is not directly?
Direct Speech is
a way to report what people have said or written, in the form of statements,
questions, or other speech, quoting the exact words.
Direct speech covered by quotation marks
(""). In addition, attribution (asked, says, said, yelled, shouted,
Replied, ordered) often accompany direct speech.
For Example :
My father said: “Don’t come home late!”
It
was an example of direct sentences as "Don’t Come home late" is a line
that has been quoted from Father Said and following with quotation marks (
").
Indirect Speech / Reported Speech
Indirect speech (sometimes called reported speech),
doesn't use quotation marks to enclose what the person said and it doesn't have
to be word for word.
When reporting speech the tense usually changes. This
is because when we use reported speech, we are usually talking about a time in
the past (because obviously the person who spoke originally spoke in the past).
The verbs therefore usually have to be in the past too.
For example :
“I’m going to the cinema,”he said. (Direct Speech)
.He said he was
going to the cinema. (Indirect Speech)
So, differences in the direct and indirect
speech can be seen from the way of delivery. But, There are similarities
between direct and indirect speech, they both are giving an information
although the way of delivery is different.
Direct and indirect speech in the English
language is same with Indonesian. If in English sentences immediately followed
by the quote in Indonesian is also followed by a quote.
Same with indirect speech. If in English there
is change of the words in the sentence in Indonesia is same too. There is a
change of the words in the sentence. but there is little difference in
Indonesian. that is :
- First person pronoun, replaced by a third person.
“Saya” or “Aku” is replaced by “Dia” or “Ia”.
- Second person pronoun, replaced by a first person.
“Kamu” is replaced by “Aku” , “Saya”, or name of person.
